Paid Review - Thank you

You chose a paid review, rather than possibly sharing with your competition, and yours will be prioritized.

In the unlikely event your site is not accepted for reviews, then I apologize, and you will be sent an e-mail with an explanation as to why I am unable to review your site, along with a full refund.

Generally the primary reasons that a site would be declined are:

  • A conflict of interest with another site or affiliate
  • A site that’s not in your own domain name, like wordpress.com, or blogger.com
  • A site hosted within a sub-domain, such as mywebsite.amway.com
  • A site that contains pornographic or other content deemed unsuitable
  • A complete lack of even the most basic fundamentals, which very few readers could learn from

In a case where your site has been accepted, you will likely see the finished product within three business days.

Since I travel frequently to Internet marketing events with the (very) occasional vacation thrown in, my video creation abilities are somewhat limited. Therefore, at those times, I will reply with a personal e-mail letting you know my estimated date of return.

Thank you again for your submission and I look forward to viewing your website!

SERP Reporting Signup - Thank You

Thank you for signing up for the trial, and you’ll be contacted shortly from Interwebbing. Remember, any future billing, and your ultimate satisfaction will be entirely up to them, but if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask. Remember, they’re on UK time.

I’d like to give you two tips that will make your life easier as you add new domains to the reporting.

  1. The default is set to use over a dozen search engines. As you set up your clients, be sure to look at the “search engines” button after you’ve scheduled your reports. Choose only the search engines you really desire to track rankings for, otherwise, the size of the e-mail can be overwhelming. Otherwise, you can imagine the delay with many reports with 500 phrases for 25 search engines in an HTML message all coming into your mailbox Monday morning.
  2. As soon as you choose your first report date, 52 reports will be scheduled for the upcoming year on that same day every week. This MAY not be the day of the week you prefer, so instead, what we do, is schedule for the upcoming Friday or Saturday, then after setup, you can scroll back to the bottom and add one more to run immediately. This ensures that reports all come when we want them to - over the weekend.

Thanks again!

Make Imported Links Live in Excel

This Microsoft Excel macro was developed to make our work easier, and will automatically make up to 10,000 rows of links “live” in a spreadsheet, the way you intended to use it.

Isn’t it a shame that MS Excel is just “too stupid” to do this automatically? The sample spreadsheet with the embedded macro is provided here free for you to download, and here are the directions…

1. Download the spreadsheet, and note the “security” warning that will appear (in Excel 2007) above column A, which simply tells you that there’s a macro in need of enabling.

2. Hit “Options” to enable the macro by choosing “Enable This Content” and checking the radio button that says “Enable macros in this document”.

3. Import or paste your links into an empty version of the spreadsheet. Currently, in the file you download, column A is labeled for URL’s, but thats not a requirement, so feel free to change it.

4. Then all you have to do is click on the top link in the column that you wish to “activate”, and press the button to make all of your links instantly live.

5. Feel free to leave comments about this tool here and/or Stumble, Digg, etc. below.

My SEO Tools

This is the new home for some original tools we’ve created, and more will be added shortly.

Combine Keyword Lists
Here’s the first tool we ever created for this site, and it’s a “keyword list combination tool”, which allows you to easily and instantly combining keyword lists so you can “cover all the bases” when it comes to variation. This used to be an endless process of copying and pasting, and now you simply have to push a button.

Restore links in Excel spreadsheets
The second tool here is just an easy way to make hundreds or thousands of links live in Excel spreadsheet, after importing or pasting from another program. For some reason, Excel won’t do that so we developed a macro you can use.

Brandable Search Engine Ranking Reports
As the exclusive US distributor of UK based Interwebbing ranking reports, we’ve worked with them for over two years perfecting their reporting system. Get rankings delivered for up to 500 search phrase per domain. Reports are delivered to your clients from you, branded with your company logo and information. Finally, a “white label” reporting service you can depend on.

Instant SEO Review
All of the on page organic ranking factors, like title, description, keywords, header tags and more can now be instantly summarized with my own commentary about each factor, and links to relevant articles I’ve written. I can’t imagine a more comprehensive tool being available for free anywhere on the planet, so please do check it out and be sure to leave me some feedback.

Put RSS Feeds on any website
This tool was born out of necessity, and came from the hearing frustration coming out of many developers we worked with. Back in 2004, I began using RSS feeds to supplement content on pages (like I still do with my blog in the top right of this page) and began recommending to others that they try it too.

The result of regularly freshening pages was better rankings, but at the time, there was no easy way to easily display feeds on sites of varying architecture and servers, Apache and .php, .Net and Windows etc. so we developed our own tool, that hundreds of websites are using today.

To avoid the potential perception by Google anyone that it was some sort of “backlink trick” for getting links to my own site using my free tool, I moved it off of my domain in early 2007, to it’s own site at FeedCommander.com where there’s both a free and a Pro version available.

What’s Next?
Well don’t tell anyone, but in September 2008, I’ll have two amazing new site / tool developments come to fruition. Bothy are in pre-beta testing now, and I plan to rock the search marketing world. Bold words, huh? Wonder if I can live up to them? Me too, and that’s why you shouldn’t tell anyone…

Competitive Analysis

Once you have all of your fundamentals out of the way, your search engine rankings are all going to come down to your content and your inbound links, but it also comes down to what your competitors are doing too.

You have to have more and better content than the next site, and the same thing goes for your inbound links, where quality matters much more than quantity.

You have to know what your competition has in their arsenal in order for you to fight this war. You need to know how many pages they have in the index, how many inbound links they have, and exactly where those links come from. By knowing that, you can determine how valuable each link is to their ranking.

Armed with that knowledge, you can begin to be competetive, by going after their link partners directly, and getting them to link to you also, or in some cases, link to you instead.

Most SEO experts agree that once your structure is in place, there’s no more powerful strategy than going after your competitors most valuable links.

If you’re engaging in pay per click advertising, it’s also important to know what keywords your competition is bidding on, how much they’re paying for those phrases, and which are their best performing ones.

At Search Commander, Inc. we perform a detailed competitive analysis of your bidding competitors for all of our monthly consulting clients. Once you’re armed with this knowledge, there’s nothing you can’t rank for, and at the best possible price.

Note:
Effective 9/2007 we are no longer providing these competitive research services à la carte, and are ONLY doing them for our monthly consulting clients. We have affiliated ourselves with a separate company though, offering two different SEO competition reports.

The company is called CompetitionReporting.com, and they offer backlink analysis reports and PPC competition analysis reports for SEO firms and for individual companies that need the research.

For a limited time, I’m also offering free site review videos for people willing to share information about their site with others for educational purposes.

PPC Management Fees

Local PPC Management Fees:
At this time, we are only providing service for local PPC management in up to 10 cities per domain.

One-time setup fee for Local PPC:

  • $500 for the first city
  • $50 per additional city
  • 12% of ongoing monthly spending, beginning with 1st monthly budget
  • This covers keyword research, dynamic title ad generation, and creation of a single optimized landing page per city. Additional landing pages may add nominal fees.
  • Weekly reporting will include total spent, total impressions, total visits, total conversions, including e-mails, contact forms, and even phone calls.
  • Time, date, duration, and caller ID, if available will be provided for all phone calls.
  • Since pay per click incurs charges, prepayment of 30 days at a time is required.

If this sounds too good to be true, then you can understand why we are only offering local services under this plan. For national or global visibility options, prices are very different.

National PPC Management:
Depending on your needs and budget, the pricing for PPC management is all over the map, beginning at $1000 setup fee and 12% of your monthly spending, unless you are also on a monthly SEO consulting plan too. If so, the monthly rate drops to 8%.

If you are in need of PPC management, please fill out a contact form by clicking on the “Free SEO Review” at the top of this page, and indicate in the notes that you are interested in PPC management.

Internet Marketing Speaker

Search engine marketing is appealing to many groups as a subject for meetings. Nearly every business has an interest in expanding their web presence, and I’ve frequently found myself speaking to groups of individuals who are not technically savvy.

I’ve done several search marketing presentations for small local groups since 2005, including the East Portland Chamber of Commerce and the Oregon Computer Consultants Association.

Most Recent:

  • December 2007 Webmaster world conference in Las Vegas - (web hosting and SEO issues)
  • March 2008 Searchfest, Portland Oregon- (moderator, two sessions)

Upcoming

  • November 2008 - Webmaster World Pubcon Las Vegas (Webhosting / SEO and site review panel)

See my shared conference calendar for upcoming year

With my extensive background in organic search engine optimization, I’m also able to speak to webmasters, programmers and developers on a more technical level, as well as to marketing professionals.

As additional speaking engagements come up, I will add them to my blog and they will display in the space below. If you are interested in a presentation for your group, please don’t hesitate to contact me using the form below.

Social Networking

Social networking and social bookmarking are powerful tools, and when used correctly, can help can build inbound links to your website and drive traffic.

In some cases, the increased traffic may not lead to an immediate increase in sales, but given time, your community will grow and your “trust factor” will increase.

When social networking sites are used incorrectly, in an attempt to artificially manipulate search engine rankings and popularity, the results can backfire, doing irreparable damage to your reputation.

Sites like Digg, Reddit, Netscape, StumbleUpon and others are a vital part of my own online visibility, and to compete in todays environment, they must be visited, used and maintained regularly.

My own experience with the world of SEOcial networking has been limited to the past few months, but recently I’ve made it my mission to become more proficient in all of those aspects.

I’m now happy to be able to offer consulting in all aspects of social media networking and social bookmarking services to my own clients, who can expect my usual level of expertise and professionalism.

These services include content management, reputation building, content creation, blog promotion, article syndication and even submission assistance to important social networking and bookmarking sites.

Social networking is not a process that can be effectively automated, because it requires human interaction. That’s what makes community building such a powerful tool. It’s a time-consuming process, but one that simply cannot be overlooked in 2007.

I can help brand you as an expert in your field, submitting your content to many specialized communities, and generating conversation and buzz around your business and your industry.

Targeting search phrases in specialized areas, and promoting it to these various communities gives your content additional “legs”, by allowing it to be visible on domains other than your own.

This gives you a huge advantage over your competition, with more opportunities to appear in the search results, and it’s not unusual to have several of the top 10 search results be one particular article that is appearing in different domains.

If you don’t have the time to assign an employee to promote you in all of these social networking communities, then this is your best option for an efficient and economical solution to your social media needs.

Below, are my most recent blog posts having to do with Web 2.0, and all aspects of social networking and social bookmarking.

Learn Search Marketing

I have an extensive collection of articles that are geared towards the beginner to intermediate search marketer called SEO-101. The articles are separated into two sections, paid listings or organic listings, and are easy to follow for even the complete rookie.

The first article I’d recommend reading is called Top 10 SEO factors, and gives a very good overview of what I consider to be the most important fundamentals that every website should have. I’ve also begun doing some free webite review videos based on those SEO fundamentals, which may help with your understanding of the concepts.

Even if you read only that first article, you should be able to get a good handle on what you need to do to your website to improve your Web visibility and search engine rankings.

That section is good for learning the fundamentals, but if you’re already comfortable with most of the basics, you probably want some theory and opinion to go along with your facts.

Therefore, I’m happy to offer mine regularly, and here are some of the latest additions from the SEO category of my blog. It’s not all I write about, but it seems to make up the majority.

SEO Consulting Rates, Pricing & Fees

My Satisfaction Guarantee (at the bottom of this page) applies to all services, including all telephone SEO consultations, on site SEO training, and monthly SEO consulting programs. The details below are fairly specific for individual services, but feel free to phone if any are not clear.

*note: Sept 2008 - Search Commander, Inc. is not accepting any new consulting clients for at least the remainder of the year, and likely well into 2009. We may be interested in limited revenue sharing or affiliate opportunities however, so please do phone or drop me a line.

If you’re looking for expert SEO advice on a basic to intermediate level, be sure to try my newly released tool called SEO Automatic that should keep your developer busy for quite a while.

Finally, I do have relationships with multiple other firms, so feel free to phone or email with your specific requirements, and I’ll provide a referral elsewhere that will meet your needs and budget.

SEO Video Review
A basic review of any website is currently available for no charge, to all potential new clients. Just click on the link in the top left of the website to begin, and I will personally review and prepare a short video review at no charge, usually within three business days.

This is not the same as the comprehensive review provided to new clients, but it’s still a good way to get started, especially if you are a small business. The review is based on compliance with the fundamentals I’ve written about in my SEO 101 section, as well as any details you provide in the form.

Due to the fact that so many businesses are running in depth sponsored search campaigns via PPC advertising, we are continuing to separate any charges incurred for PPC Management.

Monthly Fees for SEO Consulting / Services:

  • One time $4500 startup fee for all domains, plus the first months payment
  • Monthly charge per domain is based on the number of monthly page views
  • There’s no long term agreement, although I do require a three month minimum

Monthly Charge per domain is based on the current number of monthly page views:

  • zero to 50,000 page views - currently N/A
  • 50,000 to 500,000 page views - currently N/A
  • 500,000 to 2 million page views - $2,000 monthly - currently N/A
  • 2 million to 5 million page views - $3,000 monthly - currently N/A
  • 5 million to 10 million page views - $5,000 monthly - currently N/A
  • 10 million monthly page views & up - please phone - currently N/A

Hourly Consulting Rates:
I’ve been asked repeatedly for an hourly fee, and while I seldom work hourly, I’ve provided the following guidelines.

  • $400 per hour is the current fee for telephone sessions with new clients that are not already on a monthly program.
  • Two hour minimum must be paid in advance
  • May be broken into 30 minute segments for your convenience
  • These rates accurately reflect my level of experience and expertise in the search marketing industry, as well as my own search engine visibility and our current workload.

What do you get with a monthly program?

Initial startup fee includes:

  • A complete review of your physical website, including all aspects of your code & file structure, for search engine readiness and visitor usability.
  • Stats analysis of your existing website traffic
  • PPC account analysis & review
  • A thorough keyword research report
  • A Search Engine Ranking Report
  • A Backlink Analysis Report
  • An SEO Competition Analysis Report of your top 10 competitors
  • A Backlink Analysis Report of your top 10 competitors

At the end of the 45 - 60 day setup process, you will not know all of the above information in detail, but you’ll actually understand it all too.

Each of these reports is accompanied by a screencasted audio/video presentation, and further details and questions are then discussed directly with me by e-mail or telephone.

After the initial setup, this is the ongoing process -

Daily as needed

  • I communicate with you or any of your staff members answering any and all questions and making sure progress is being made.
  • I will provide feedback on any aspect of your campaign that you determine will be most beneficial towards meeting your goals.
  • Phone support to my direct line is available at all times, and emails are answered promptly.

Weekly

  • We examine your website statistics and Google webmaster account to keep the site error free and growing.
  • Search ranking reports are emailed weekly, reflecting any changes in a short summary at the top, and also showing details for up to 500 key phrases, including the ranking for your top three competitors.
  • Scheduled weekly phone calls with your staff are optional.

Monthly

  • I personally review your progress, analyze your visitor stats, determine and explain your conversion rates as well as the behavior to visitors on your site.
  • I will personally prepare a review video, giving you, your marketing people, and your web designers, executive level feedback on the previous reports, and additional details are provided where needed. This prevents you from becoming buried in data and meaningless reports.
  • Monthly scheduled telephone calls are optional

Also included monthly:

  • Four (4) 500 word articles specific to your industry. These are authored for you, and are not rented, borrowed or leased. (more are available*). These will be added to your site at no charge, or you may add them yourself.
  • A minimum of ten (10) one-way, inbound, anchor text appropriate permanent links will be obtained for you from various relevant websites and blogs. (Additional links are always available*)
  • Two (2) of your articles are manually submitted to the top 10 article directories, including your anchor text links in the byline. (More are always available*)

* Monthly clients also receive a 25% discount on the regular price of all individual SEO services offered by Search Commander. All services and prices are available from the site menu.

What is NOT included for the monthly fee?
This is important, because on a site with thousands of pages, someone must be available to do all of the work. Most businesses prefer to use their own programmers, web designers, and in-house staff, but in many cases, they may not have staff available. If any of these services below are needed, we can help get this done at reasonable rates.

  • Programming
  • Copywriting
  • Graphic art
  • PPC Management (unless specified)

My Guarantee

If at any time you don’t feel like the advice and knowledge you obtain from my consultation is well worth the money you’re spending, then we simply stop with no hard feelings, and I will refund you 100% of the previous month’s consulting fees upon request.

If you ever feel that I’ve taken too long for a task, or something is not completed to your satisfaction, just say so, and a portion, or all of your previous monthly fee will be returned.

I value your business, but I also value my reputation and your future referrals.

I have not yet been asked to ever refund a single dollar.

If you are ready to proceed with signing up for an Internet consulting plan, please consult the pricing references above and follow these links. Please note that an additional $4500 for the setup fee will be added to the first payment.

You may cancel at any time, simply by logging into your account and changing your billing information, and notifying me by e-mail.
